DOMAINE BOTT-GEYL
ALSACE
Jean-Christophe Bott is a strong advocate for terroir and grapes harvested at perfect maturity. He believes in gentle and extended aging processes that respect the unique identity of the soil. This focus on ripeness results in wines that are voluptuous, complex, and exceptionally pure. These wines bring a unique vision to the genius of the terroir and the notion of "Grand Vin d'Alsace." The estate encompasses four distinct vineyards and boasts six Grand Crus and one historical clos.
By ignoring trends, Jean-Christophe Bott has been using organic and biodynamic farming practices for nearly 15 years, always striving for the perfect balance of flavors and aromas in the grapes. This approach to cultivation and aging is consistent with a respect for the raw materials and helps to bring out the best in the wines produced from these great terroirs
While Rieslings can be enjoyed after just one year in the bottle, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Late Harvest, and Noble Selection wines are aged for an additional two to three years in the cellar to ensure that their flavors are fully developed at the time of tasting. In short, the philosophy of the Bott-Geyl domain is based on the desire to achieve the highest level of expression of the terroirs.

SINGLE VINEYARDS
These vineyards embody the concept of vins de terroir, in which the unique characteristics of the grape variety are conveyed through the flavors imparted by the soil and climate of the region. Our ancestors recognized that certain vineyards consistently produced wines with a distinct character and quality. There is now a movement to legally recognize Lieux-dits as "younger brothers" of the Grands Crus in Alsace.
Bott-Geyl Grafenreben Riesling
Terroir: Village of Zellengerg, Grafenreben parcel.
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
The Parcel: Consisting of an argillaceous-limestone base, its slight slope and southeast exposure ensure excellent grape maturity. A favorite terroir of Rieslings, they are both smooth and saline, and have an elegant acid structure.
Notes: The Bott-Geyl Riesling Grafenreben exudes flavorful, slightly herbaceous aromas. On the palate, this elegantly delicate wine is pure and salty, with great tension. It is distinguished by its very mineral character, well-structured and lively.
Bott-Geyl Burgreben Riesling
Terroir: Village of Zellenberg, Burgreben parcel.
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
The Parcel: Located on a small hillock that is both limonious, sandy, and clayey, facing east. Rieslings reach a beautiful maturity and retain a very fine acidity with an angular and stony side.
Notes: This wine reveals a crystalline pale yellow, clear and limpid robe. The initial nose expresses citrus and pronounced stony notes. The palate is frank, straight, pure and elongated. Aromas of fresh citrus juice spread on a thread of minerality. The wine finishes with an elegant saline note
Bott-Geyl Kronenbourg Riesling
Terroir: Village of Zellenberg, Kronenbourg parcel.
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
The Parcel: South-east facing hillside on an argillaceous-marl-limestone soil with the presence of white quartz pebbles. This is a great terroir for Rieslings, bringing intensity, minerality, and straightforwardness.
Notes: Producing dry Rieslings with optimal maturity is a task perfectly mastered here. The Kronenbourg is very well balanced with its notes of white fruits and has a mineral power. It is a refined and mouth-watering wine.
Bott-Geyl Le Clos des 3 Chemins Gewurztraminer
Terroir: Village of Mittelwihr, Clos des 3 chemin parcel.
Grape Variety: 100% Gewurztraminer
The Parcel: According to a geopedological study by the Sorbonne in the 1970s, this historical clos is one of the two best terroirs for Gewurztraminer. Facing east/southeast, this terroir is made up of a limestone-marl soil with the presence of quartz pebbles. Gewurztraminer from this terroir is both powerful and elegant, with aromas of rose, lychee, and spices.
Notes: The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of exotic fruits. Smooth on the palate, this late harvest wine seduces us with its apricot-flavored finish.
GRANDS CRUS
The best of these vineyards even more distinctly exemplify the concept of vins de terroir, in which the unique characteristics of the grape variety are conveyed through the flavors imparted by the soil and climate of the region. Our ancestors identified and named these vineyards, which consistently produce wines with a specific character and quality. Many of these vineyards were named by medieval monks and their superiors.
Bott-Geyl Grand Cru Sonnenglanz Gewurztraminer
Terroir: Village of Beblenheim, Sonnenglanz Grand Cru Parcel
Grape Variety: 100% Gewurztraminer
The Parcel: Heavy and stony terroir made up of conglomerate limestone pebbles and Oligocene marls. Its southeast exposure and dry microclimate are ideal for Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, both intense and complex.
Notes: Gewurztraminer Sonnenglanz Grand Cru, like in many vintages, benefits from the precision of early botrytis, which combined with pronounced acidity gives a sweet and bitter, elegant and stimulating wine in the style of sweet wines. Bottled with about 50gr/liter of residual sugar, it is concentrated, clear, precise, fresh and spicy on the nose, revealing notes of orange, lemon and grapefrui
Bott-Geyl Grand Cru Mandelberg Riesling
Terroir: Villages of Mittelwihr and Beblenheim, Mandelbers Grand Cru Parcel.
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
The Parcel: Facing south/southeast, the "almond slope" is made up of a relatively stony calcareous-magnesian soil. Riesling fully expresses itself here, with intensity, purity, and smoothness.
Notes: This Grand Cru always produces highly aromatic wines with a beautiful range of fruit flavors. Everything is in place; it takes a few years in the bottle for it to reach its full potential.
Bott-Geyl Grand Cru Schoenenbourg Riesling
Terroir: Villages of Riquewihr and Zellenberg, Schenenbourg Grand Cru parcel.
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
The Parcel: Gypsum marls of Keuper, Vosges sandstone and fine layers of Muschelkalk, facing south/southeast. Riesling best showcases the full potential of this terroir and takes on a bright, saline, and complex character.
Notes: The nose combines minerality, floral notes, and citrus. The palate is fine, precise, and tense with a slight saline finish.
Bott-Geyl Grand Cru Furstentum Pinot Gris
Terroir: Villages of Kientzheim and Sigolsheim, Furstentum parcel
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Gris
The Parcel: Presence of Mediterranean vegetation on a marl-limestone-sandstone terroir, very stony and facing south. Ideal for Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, producing wines that are both subtle and intense and airy.
Notes: Intense, ethereal, and refined, it reveals delicate overripe, roasted, and grilled notes, all with a very beautiful freshness. The palate is harmonious and delivers beautiful notes of candied fruit and fresh ginger.
Bott-Geyl Grand Cru Schlossberg Riesling
Terroir: Villages of Kientzheim and Kaysersberg, Schlossberg Grand Cru Parcel.
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
Parcel:Hillside located at an altitude of 230 to 350 meters on Kaysersberg migmatites and intrusive granite from Thannenkirch, whose sands constitute an excellent mineral-fertile soil, both coarse and clayey. Schlossberg sublimates Riesling and produces wines of remarkable minerality and great finesse.
Notes: Schlossberg is splendid, radiant, and refined, a dynamic wine full of life, with a finish bursting with fresh bitterness.
Bott-Geyl Grand Cru Sporen Riesling
Terroir: Villages of Riquewihr, Sporen Grand Cru parcel.
Grape Variety: 100 % Riesling
Parcel: With vines over 80-years old, Sporen is the last Grand-Cru to join Bott-Geyl’s family in 2012.
The area of the vineyard is 23.70 hectares at an altitude of around 275 metres. This natural circle faces South/South-East and is protected from the period of drought during years with low rainfall. The soil is made of lias clay-marl decalcified on the surface which is propitious for Riesling and Gewurztraminer and gives complex wines with intensity and elegance.
Notes: The purity and intensity of Sporen are striking: this is a radiant wine with electric energy, whose saline breath will take you far away. Citrus on the nose, a full-bodied palate with a gentle approach. The finish is refined with flavors of ripe fruit.
CREMANT
Bott-Geyl Cremant Absolu Extra-Brut
Terroir: Alsace
Grape Variety: 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Blanc, 20% Pinot Noir.
Dosage: Extra-Brut < 5 g/l
Vinification: Bottling for the champagnisation at the beginning of March. The wine is foamed for 7 to 8 weeks until the sugars are exhausted and a pressure of between 5.5 and 6 bars is reached in the bottle. The wine is then aged on laths (fine lees) for 40 months before disgorging, which brings complexity, intensity, and harmony.
Notes: Golden green colour with a fine and delicate bubble. The elegant and intense nose expresses notes of almonds, hazelnuts, white flowers and brioches. The palate has a lot of freshness, intensity and depth with fine flavours of brioches and marzipan.
